Omega Dayby Bill Fay, 1971
Inside a bar of a sleeping town There lay a sleeping man he wore a frown A stranger woke him he looked around Then he spoke I wrote it down
He said, “My climbing rope is broken, And I cannot stay awake Better fix it son no joking For the omega day is come”
I went over to the stranger’s side I began to speak but he read my mind He said, “You know me from long ago” Then he turned I watched him go
I said, “My climbing rope is broken, And I cannot stay awake Better fix it son no joking For the omega day is come”

Poor In Love
by Dan Bejar, as performed by Destroyer, 2011

I was poor in love. I was poor in wealth.
I was okay in everything else there was.
Oh, I was poor in love.
I was poor in love…

She took me aside and said -
"Look I don’t do this every day,
You got style!… All you’ve got in style!
I can see it from a mile away!”
Oh, I was poor in love.
I was poor in love…

"You were born okay.
Rich in name alone.
Your Jesuit profile will suit
The coming apocalypse!”
Oh, I was poor in love.
Poor in love…

Why does everybody sing along?
Why does everybody sing along,
When we built this city on
Ruins?…

“Dave was listening to Diana Ross. Nic dusted off a Vini Reilly cassette. John bought a fretless bass. I was thinking about directors with a background in advertising, like Michael Mann and Ridley Scott. I was thinking about my youth, Reagan, Rome’s version of jazz music. The degeneration of the signal path in favor of thin outlandish spaces. Mood lighting. The 80s. There, I said it.”
— Dan Bejar, from Aquarium Drunkard’s interview with the auteur behind the wonderful new album Kaputt. I love how specific all these references are, and how weirdly appropriate all of them seem to the record’s sound. (via marathonpacks)

notarobotbutaghost:

I photographed quite a few shows this year, but my favorite was easily Tallest Man On Earth.  I had to constantly remind myself to actually take photos instead of sit there and swoon.

It’s also a resolution of mine to take more photos in 2011. Of course that’s going to mean fewer MP3s on my phone so that I have room to take photos (I was always “at capacity” in 2010). Gotta keep my playlist lean in order to take advantage of the incredible camera on the iPhone.

The Gardner
by Kristian Matsson, as performed by The Tallest Man on Earth, 2008

I sense a runner in the garden
Although my judgement’s known to fail
Once built a steamboat in a meadow
Cos I’d forgotten how to sail

I know the runner’s going to tell you
There ain’t no cowboy in my hair
So now he’s buried by the daisies
So I could stay the tallest man in your eyes, babe

I sense a spy up in the chimney
From all the evidence I’ve burned
I guess he’ll read it in the smoke now
And soon to ashes I’ll return

I know the spy is going to tell you
It’s not my flag up in the pole
So now he’s buried by the lilies
So I could stay forever more in your eyes, babe

I sense a leak inside my phone now
From all the lies that I have told
I know he has your private number
And soon he’ll make that vicious call

I know the leak is going to tell you
There ain’t no puppy in your leash
So now he’ll fertilize the roses
So I could stay the king you see
In your eyes, babe

So now we’re dancing through the garden
And what a garden I have made
And now that death will grow my jasmine
I find it soothing I’m afraid

Now there is no need for suspicion
There ain’t no frog kissing your hand
I won’t be lying when I tell you
That I’m a gardner, I’m a man
In your eyes, babe
