Just enjoyed Anton Corbijn’s The American. Slow & meditative, it reminded me of Antonioni’s The Passenger. I’d been looking forward to seeing it for over a year. Aside from being a fan of George Clooney and European thrillers, it first landed on my radar as the film that compelled R. Alverson to change the name of his second feature film to New Jerusalem (though you can’t copyright film — or book — titles, he didn’t want to have his film debut within the same year as a big budget film with the same name).
